By law, a defendant charged with a drug trafficking crime receives the minimum mandatory charge per the statute absent certain circumstances. If a person who is charged offers “substantial assistance” to the prosecution, there is a state statute that allows the prosecutor to move the court to waive the minimum mandatory sentence.
